This collection has many different items, mostly from the Boston and Maine and the Maine Central railroads. There is a binder with a list of all relevant railroad legislation from 1820 to 1915, which includes an index at the beginning with relevant towns and railroad companies. There is an appraisal report of the Portland Terminal Company, Rigby Yard from 1966. There are timetables, operating schedules, and employee handbooks from the Boston and Maine railroad from 1975-1980. There are the contents of a file box, including histories, charters, legal papers, and corporate histories of several railroad companies. There is a lawsuit against the Portland Terminal Company, as well as photos of accidents.

In 1845 the Androscoggin & Kennebec Railroad was chartered to build a line from Danville Junction on the Atlantic & St. Lawrence (Grand Trunk) to Waterville, and the Penobscot & Kennebec Railroad was chartered to extend the Androscoggin & Kennebec line to Bangor.
